OpenCorporates is a registry data provider whose commercial route is an API. Its published plans run from Essentials at £2,250 per year (£225 per month) for 500 calls a month and 200 a day, through Starter at £6,600 per year (£660 per month) for 2,500 calls a month, and Basic at £12,000 per year (£1,200 per month) for 5,000 calls a month, to Enterprise with bulk data on request. Free access at scale is offered to journalists, NGOs and academics. There is no free commercial API tier.
That makes it a tool for a developer who is building something. You write the code that calls the API, handles the limits, stores the results, works out what is new and decides what to do with it. If that is what you need, OpenCorporates is a serious and established route.
NewcoSignal is the opposite shape: no code, no call allowance. The Companies House register is ingested daily, and you describe what you want by choosing an industry category and a region. A saved search emails you the new matches daily or weekly, or sends them to a CRM, Slack, Teams, Zapier or a webhook. The free plan has unlimited company search and profiles and a daily email of the top 5 new matches. Pro at £39 per month + VAT, or £348 a year + VAT, covers every match (up to 625 new companies a week) and 10 saved searches, with CSV and Excel export.
The data we add is aimed at selling. New companies come with a registered address (around 99.98%) and a named director (around 99%), with formation-agent addresses and likely shell companies filtered out and a reachable-by-post filter. Instant alerts are hourly delivery of daily data, not real time. If you do need an API, Business at £99 per month + VAT includes one, together with native CRM sync.
The easiest way to decide is to ask whether you want the register or the leads. If you want the register, with global reach and your own code on top, look at OpenCorporates. If you want the leads, try NewcoSignal's free plan.
