The old way
- New consultancies are asked for insurance certificates before they have started work
- Brokers often meet them only when they ask a client what cover is needed
- Generic business insurance lists are broad and lack professional services focus
- Contractor packages are time-sensitive, because the contract usually starts soon after incorporation
With NewcoSignal
- New consultancy, IT, design and engineering companies surfaced as they register
- Optional focus on one-person contractor companies for package products
- Registered addresses and named directors for a concise, relevant letter
- Alerts that help you appear before the first contract demands cover

Why new consultancies matter to professional indemnity brokers
A new consultancy, whether an IT contractor, designer, engineer or adviser, is usually asked for insurance very early. Agencies and end clients commonly require professional indemnity, public liability and sometimes employers' liability before a contract can begin. The founder is therefore under time pressure to buy, and is looking for a broker who can quote quickly.
That makes the first weeks after incorporation the best moment to be visible. A broker who writes at that point is part of the founder's set-up checklist alongside the accountant and the bank. One who arrives later is competing with a policy that has already been bought, and renewal inertia means it may stay with the first broker for years.
We do not quote premium levels, because they vary widely and are not independently verified here. The commercial point is the repeat relationship: a contractor who buys cover once will renew it each year and may add other policies as the company grows.
What a new consultancy signal means
The signal tells you that a company in a professional services trade, such as IT, consulting, design, engineering or marketing, has just been registered. Each match shows the registration date, the registered address and, where listed, a named director. The information comes from Companies House and other official public records.
If your product is a contractor package, you can also choose to focus on companies run by one person, which is the typical contractor structure.
What it does not mean
A new company does not necessarily trade, and does not necessarily need professional indemnity. Some consultancies will not be asked for cover, some will already have it through an umbrella arrangement, and some will never start. The signal also does not show who the company's clients are or what limits they will require. A short, helpful letter that explains what cover is usually asked for is a safer approach than assuming a need.
The registered address may be a formation agent's or an accountant's rather than the director's home or office, so do not make assumptions about where the business is based.
How to use it
- Set an alert. Save a search for the professional services trades you cover and receive new matches by email.
- Choose your product focus. Narrow to one-person companies for contractor packages, or keep the wider list for small-firm cover.
- Reach by post or corporate email. A registered address is always available for a letter. Limited companies can be emailed as corporate subscribers if you identify yourself and offer an opt-out. Sole traders and ordinary partnerships need consent, and calls must be screened against the TPS and CTPS.
- Keep your promotions compliant. Insurance broking is FCA-regulated, and your own marketing may be a financial promotion. NewcoSignal is a data tool, not a promotion, and it does not clear any particular approach. Check your own wording and permissions before you write.
NewcoSignal does not provide email addresses or phone numbers for new companies. The public record holds a registered office and a named director, and a concise letter is the usual way to start.
